What makes us a good technology partner? We work in tech because we love it!
Technology has been the core focus throughout our lives and continues to drive us today. We have seen the rise and fall of many different systems, platforms, apps and frameworks. We have coded in many languages and followed the progression of software technology and practices from mainframe development to cloud based flows and machine learning models.
We are firmly part of the tech community, from organising tech talks to much larger events in the local Reading and Thames Valley area, attracting users from several countries. This means we have a great network and exposure to a variety of enterprise and industry solutions and expertise.
We adopt good practices and standards and always take pride in high quality work. We bring wide experience and deep knowledge to your problems.
Lodgical is based in Reading, UK and is ready to travel to locations within the UK regularly, and occasionally to the EU. We are open to remote and semi-remote, as well as onsite positions.
EDF is one of the UK's "Big 6" energy companies, BlueLab was their innovation lab based in Hove, Sussex until 2020.
Mark architected and built BlueLake, a DataLake providing access to anonymised smart meter and corporate data.
BlueLake began in PoCs within the innovation lab, providing EDF customers with real time data on energy usage. It has subsequently been extended to run data engineering work flows and provide controlled access to the data science teams within EDF's data team, R&D and other departments.
BlueLake is implemented on AWS using:
Lambda functions for management and dataflow automation
S3 for storage
Glue for the data directory
Transient EMRs for all data transforms
Scheduling is managed using Apache Airflow running on an ECS cluster
“(Mark) was the primary architect and developer on our department's new data lake in AWS and core to the new insights engines being built around it. It’s thanks to him and his quick eye, that the coding standards of our entire team have been raised to an exemplary level.”
“(Mark) and I often had sensible and necessary technical discussions to ensure that we were delivering the right solution and in the right way. Mark is an accomplished engineer and I would heavily recommend him for any projects. It would be great to work with him again!”
